'Dear Martin' author to appear at Glenbard North

The Glenbard Parent Series has selected the critically acclaimed young adult novel "Dear Martin" as its 2018-19 second semester community read.

GPS will host New York Times best-selling author Nic Stone at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 25, at Glenbard North High School, 990 N. Kuhn Road in Carol Stream.

Glenbard North students will hear Stone during the day at an author event sponsored by the school's English department.

Stone tackles racial profiling and American race relations as the book's lead character attempts to deal with social injustice and violence by writing letters to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Stone also wrote the award-winning young adult novel "Odd One Out."

Continuing professional development units are available for the April 25 event.
