Parents invited to library's Bump to Baby Expo

Vernon Area Public Library will welcome new and expecting parents to its second annual Bump to Baby Expo from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 27.

Eighteen area organizations and vendors will be on hand to help connect parents with local services and products. Visitors may also attend a series of five-minute "Spark Talks" covering topics such as infant sleep and exploring Lake County with kids.

The library is at 300 Olde Half Day Road, Lincolnshire. The event is free; no registration is required.

Event organizer Kelsey Cole-Burns, a youth services librarian and a parent of a toddler, sees the event as a way to showcase all that the library offers young families.

Anyone who steps through the library doors to attend Bump to Baby Expo will not only find an array of local businesses, but "a home away from home where parents can bring their babies to learn, play and meet others in the community," Cole-Burns said.

Throughout the year, the library provides a full roster of programs and services to engage young families, with the aim of supporting parents as they raise readers.

The expo expands on these offerings by providing an opportunity for new and future moms and dads to check out what's new and tried-true in pregnancy, birth and parenting during the early years.

During the April 27 event, the library's youth services staff will provide information about year-round story times and other early learning opportunities at the library, guide moms and dads to helpful resources and assist patrons who need a library card or wish to register their home library card at Vernon Area.

The Lincolnshire Police Department will be on hand to perform infant and child car seat safety checks and adjustments. Chicagoland Babywearing, a nonprofit organization, will demonstrate how to use a baby carrier to benefit the infant and the wearer.

A full roster of participating businesses and organizations can be found at vapld.info/bumptobaby.
