Community Gathers to Support Local Resident and People with Spinal Cord Injury and Disabilities

Prospect Heights resident, Reveca Torres, is the founder and director of BACKBONES, a nonprofit serving people with spinal cord injury and disabilities nationwide. Reveca was injured and paralyzed in a car accident with her family at the age 13, while a student at MacArthur Middle School. In 2009 she started BACKBONES and the community has been supportive in the organization's fundraising efforts for over 10 years!

On May 19th, 2019 at 9 am runners, walkers and rollers will participate in the 11th annual BACKBONES 5K Run, Walk 'n Roll at Country Gardens Park in Prospect Heights. This race has been an exciting and successful event for our community for the past ten years and we invite you to be a part of it!

BACKBONES exists to help people with spinal cord injury or disease (SCI/D) and their families connect with their communities. We do that by creating events and experiences that promote awareness and engage people of all abilities. As a host to events BACKBONES creates an inviting atmosphere for peer support where people can ask questions, learn from each other informally and make lasting friendships.
