Paper goods needed at South Elgin Food Pantry

The South Elgin Food Pantry needs donations of paper goods, including paper towels, toilet tissue and facial tissue.

Patrons on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program cannot use this benefit to purchase paper goods at retail stores.

The pantry tries to keep a steady supply of paper goods, but at times, it is not available from Northern Illinois Food Bank, where most of these goods are purchased.

Donations would be much appreciated. Drop it off at the pantry located in the lower level of South Elgin Community United Methodist Church, 400 W. Spring St.

An outside bin is available for drop-off.

Doors are open for inside donations Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon; Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 to 10 a.m.; Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; and Sundays from 8 to 11:30 a.m. There also are evening hours from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Other donations could include: baking goods such as flour, cooking oil, baking soda, baking powder, baking chips, condensed and evaporated milk, vanilla, cake and brownie mixes, frosting, and granulated, powdered and brown sugar; personal care items such as deodorant, soap, shampoo, conditioner, shaving cream and toothpaste; and condiments, such as ketchup, mustard, salad dressings, pickles, relish and salsa.

The South Elgin Food Pantry has been operating since 1994. For information, call the church at (847) 931-0563 or email cumc@sbcglobal.net.
