Celebrate women composers March 10 at St. Charles library

The St. Charles Public Library will host Chicago-based Cherchez la Femme at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 10, in the Carnegie Community Room.

The duo will perform music by women composers written or arranged especially for flutes and cello throughout the millennium. Flutist Lisa Goethe-McGinn and cellist Erica Lessie will perform music by 10th Century composer Hildegard von Bingen spanning to present-day composers including Marilyn Bliss, Billie Holiday and Katrina Emtage.

Cherchez la Femme recently received a grant from The American Music Project to perform two concerts of music by American Women Composers spanning the 1900s. They have performed at numerous venues in Chicago and in the Midwest, and in 2019 were invited to perform the music of Edie Hill at the National Flute Association Convention in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Goeth-McGinn is on the faculty of Columbia College Chicago, Sherwood Community Music School, and the Chicago Center for Music Education. She received her degrees from the University of Illinois and Millikin University.

Lessie is a freelance cellist in Chicago. She teaches at DePaul University Community Division, Sherwood Community Music School, and the ChiArts High School. She received a Bachelor of Music degree from Indiana University, and a Masters of Music degree and completed Doctor of Music coursework from Florida State University.

Since 1981, the library has featured a wide variety of musical performances. The public is welcome and the concert is free to attend.
