Nature program to focus on spring migration of amphibians March 9
When you hear talk about spring migration, it's birds that get all the glory but local salamanders and frogs undertake an impressive trek as well.
Learn about local salamanders, frogs and other amphibians during the nature program "AMphibians in the AM," offered by the Forest Preserve District of Kane County.
It will be offered from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, March 9, at Hickory Knolls Discovery Center, 3795 Campton Hills Drive in St. Charles.
Two staffers from the St. Charles Park District, restoration ecologist Ryan Solomon and nature program manager Pam Otto, will explain amphibian reproductive behaviors and their importance for land management.
Following the indoor presentation, participants will head into the field to find amphibians in the wetlands.
"Learn From the Experts" programs are for ages 16 and older.

Learn from the Experts programs are taught by experts in their respective fields and offer in-depth learning opportunities about our local ecology. The programs are offered through a partnership by the Forest Preserve District of Kane County, St. Charles Park District and Geneva Park District.
The next program will be "In Search of Giants: The Kane County Big Tree Program" on Sunday, March 10. Learn how to find and document Kane County's biggest trees and become a champion! The Kane County Big Tree Program encourages citizens to appreciate, record and report the largest native trees in the county.
It will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Creek Bend Nature Center at LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve, 37W700 Dean St., St. Charles.
This workshop will begin with classroom instruction covering tree measurement techniques and the protocol for nominating trees in the program. Then, participants will head outdoors to practice measuring trees. Advance registration is required. Cost is $10 per person,
