Mt Prospect Community Band Concert March 10, 2019

On Sunday March 10, 2019 at 3:30 pm, the Mt Prospect Community Band will present, "How Sweet It Is", at Trinity United Methodist Church, 605 W. Golf Road, Mt. Prospect, IL. The band is under the direction of Monty Adams.

Put winter out of your mind and join the Mt. Prospect Community Band, with guest vocalists Diana Stoic and Jennifer Kosharsky, for a concert of beautiful melodies to sweeten your afternoon and warm your heart.

Diana Stoic, a Mt. Prospect resident, is a well-known performer in the Midwest and Chicago area. She has performed with the Illinois Philharmonic, Chicago Fringe Opera, Light Opera Works, Savoy-aires and with the Lyric Opera of Chicago. She has received numerous awards from the Bel Canto Foundation and in 2012 was the co-winner of the Opera Idol competition.

Jennifer Kosharsky performs nationally as well as internationally and made her European debut with the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra in Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. She has sung title roles in Bizet's Carmen and Saint-Saens Samson et Dalila. Recently, Jennifer sang with The Joffrey Ballet in their World Premiere of Anna Karenina. She will be a vocal soloist this June performing Verdi's Requiem with the West Suburban Symphony.

In keeping with the theme of this concert, our vocalists will be presenting operatic arias including "My Heart at Thy Sweet Voice" by Camille Saint Saens, "Caro Nome" by Verdi and the lovely "Barcarolle" duet from Offenbach's "Tales of Hoffman" which has been arranged by music director, Monty Adams.

Everyone will enjoy the lively "English Folk Song Suite" by Ralph Vaughan Williams written in 1923, which continues to be an audience favorite. Throughout his life, Vaughan Williams composed or arranged over 800 songs. This suite is a small sampling of his vast collection.

"Willow Blossoms", a thoroughly delightful concert piece for band was written in 1916 by John Phillip Sousa. Although known primarily for his rousing marches of which he wrote 137, Sousa wrote for many genres including operettas, overtures, suites and dances.

Robert Russell Bennett was an American composer best known for his many concert band compositions. His "Suite of Old American Dances" was premiered by the Goldman Band in 1949, a wonderful showpiece for concert band based on memories of dances heard in the composer's youth.

"In the Miller Mood", a wonderful compilation of Glenn Miller compositions from the big band swing era including "In The Mood", "Moonlight Serenade" and "At Last", will have you tapping your feet to these time honored melodies.

Tickets are $8 at the RecPlex through March 9th and $10 at the door on March 10th. For more information, please call the Mt. Prospect Park District at 847-640-1000, or visit www.mppd.org. The Mt. Prospect Community Band is a program of the Mt. Prospect Park District.
