Highland Coffeehouse to feature gifted a cappella singers

On Friday, March 1, the Highland Avenue Coffeehouse will feature the Briton Singers from Albion College in Albion, Michigan, at 7 p.m.

This select, small ensemble is dedicated to a cappella performance in Renaissance, contemporary, jazz, and world music styles.

The group won prizes at the Young Prague festival and has appeared recently at festivals in Vienna and Puerto Rico.

Performing and rehearsing without a conductor, the Briton Singers are committed to developing the musical leadership and independence of its members.

The group's director, Clayton Parr, is active as a performer in Chicago with Music of the Baroque, the Grant Park Music Festival and Bella Voce. He is editor for the series "Music of the Republic of Georgia" for Earthsongs Publishing.

The singers are planning a tour of the Republic of Georgia (in the former Soviet Union) in the summer of 2019, and this Elgin performance is one of several they are giving as they prepare for and raise money for the trip.

The Highland Avenue Coffeehouse offers music, light refreshments, and friendly people. It is open to the community. There is no cover charge; donations are appreciated
