Fox River Valley Chapter DAR presents community service award

The Fox River Valley Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is pleased to announce that Karen Hutchings is the recipient of the 2018 Community Service Award recognizing a member for outstanding voluntary achievements.

Hutchings has numerous voluntary accomplishments throughout the community. She has been involved in Rotary for 29 years, having served as secretary, club president and assistant district governor. She was Expo Coordinator for Rotary District 6440 "Health Rays" raisings funds for digital X-ray equipment for clinics in Guatemala. She is involved in Youth Exchange committee and trains host families,

Hutchings serves on the board of directors for Good Samaritan Ministries in Crystal Lake, which provides emergency assistance to the needy, and organizes fundraisers. She has served on the board of directors for both Horizons for the Blind and the McHenry County League of Women Voters. She supports the Raue Center of the Arts by assisting with events and she volunteers for Friends of the Huntley Area Public Library.

As a member of the Ridgefield-Crystal Lake Presbyterian Church, she supports the homeless, volunteers at the Crystal Lake Food Pantry, and organizes annual community blood donations and health screenings, as well as serving as a deacon, greeter, liturgist, usher and presenter.

Hutchings has worked with Transforming Lives through Service to Veterans (TLS) of McHenry County. She is an outstanding volunteer in her selflessness and dedication to veterans.
