Geneva Early Learning Program to hold preschool open house Feb. 20

The Geneva Early Learning Program invites area families to an open house from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, to learn about the rewarding and enriching preschool offerings from Geneva Unit District 304.

Geneva Early Learning Program is an inclusive preschool community for residents of District 304 offering a full continuum of services for children who are typically developing as well as those who have identified disabilities.

Its curriculum is a research-based, play-based curriculum and is aligned to the school district's core values.

The program is currently accepting enrollment for tuition-based preschool students who will be 3 by Sept. 1, 2019. Children who are 5 years old by Sept. 1, 2019, are not eligible for the program.

"Preschool is a critical first experience in our children's education," said Program Director Mary Anne Bjork. "We invite families to this open house to meet our teachers, explore our classrooms, ask questions and learn about how Geneva 304 partners with families to foster a love of learning while preparing children - academically, socially, emotionally, and physically - for life and future learning."

The preschool's curriculum is a research-based play-based curriculum and aligned to Geneva 304's core values, according to Bjork.

"Developmentally appropriate activities are aligned with the Creative Curriculum, the Illinois Early Learning and Development Standards, and student progress is monitored via Teaching Strategies Gold."

All teachers have a bachelor's and/or master's degree. Each holds a Professional Educator License with the Illinois State Board of Education with endorsements in either Early Childhood and/or Special Education and/or English as a Second Language.

Every classroom has a full-time Instructional Assistant who is a licensed paraprofessional by the Illinois State Board of Education.

"We look forward to welcoming children to the program and supporting them in this next step in their developmental journey," Bjork added.

The Geneva 304 Early Learning Program focuses on teaching young students through developmentally appropriate practices, while developing positive self-concept, enhancing creativity, and enriching each student's life socially, intellectually, and emotionally. Its mission is to present opportunities to grow and develop as emerging learners within a complex society, through a collaborative effort between school, family, and the community.
