"Hockey is a fantastic sport for boys and girls. It's the ultimate sport for health and comradery," said Randy Jordan, Assistant General Manager of Ice Operations for the Hoffman Estates Park District's Triphahn Ice Arena.

In addition, the Park District is adding Floorball in the spring. Floorball is the new rage; it is great for existing players working to improve stick skills, game vision and conditioning, but also a fantastic start for those that have never played hockey.

Some of the most common questions that Jordan hears from parents include:

Is there a big investment in equipment to start hockey? No, the park district supplies equipment at no charge for players to start.

Is hockey safe for kids? The park district provides quality equipment and coaching, which equates to no more injuries than most youth sports.

Are the lessons always in the early morning? No, lessons are generally in late afternoons and on weekends.

My child can't skate? No worries! The park district's professional staff is superb at taking the intimidated new player and quickly converting them to love skating.

Spring hockey lesson registration opens February 27. To learn more about the schedules and fees for lessons visit heparks.org.
