Avanti Guitar Trio to perform Feb. 10 at St. Charles library

On Sunday, Feb. 10, the St. Charles Public Library will host the Avanti Guitar Trio as part of the "Sunday Concert Series."

Rooted in the classical guitar tradition, the trio is a world-class chamber ensemble. Their repertoire ranges from the Baroque to contemporary, and features newly-composed music, engaging transcriptions of classical masterpieces, and an occasional rock/pop or jazz tune.

The performance will begin at 2 p.m. in the Carnegie Community Room on the mezzanine level of the library, 1 S. Sixth Ave.

Chicago-based Avanti Guitar Trio members are Jason Deroche, Julie Goldberg and Wesley Hixson.

Deroche has shared the studio and stage with artists ranging from members of the 1980s groups Survivor and Toto to some of Chicago's finest classical musicians. Playing everything from Bach to Beatles, Deroche leaves his audiences delighted with his relaxed performance style and candid sense of humor.

Goldberg received her doctorate in music performance from Northwestern University and was named Guitarist of the Year by "Classical Guitar Alive," an internationally-broadcast radio program. She recently co-authored the book, "100 Classical Guitar Lessons," which is published by Hal Leonard.

Composer and guitarist Hixson received his masters of music degree from the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University, and has performed as a soloist at music festivals throughout the United States. Since 2005 Wesley has been on the faculty of Elmhurst College and frequently serves as clinician and adjudicator at festivals and competitions throughout the U.S.

Formed in 2010 the Avanti Guitar Trio continues to expand the guitar trio repertoire by composing/transcribing new works and collaborating with established and upcoming composers. To learn more about the guitar trio, visit www.avantiguitartrio.com.

Since 1981, the library has featured a wide variety of musical performances. The public is welcome and the concert is free to attend. This performance is funded through donations to the St. Charles Public Library Foundation.
