Sign up for Strike Out Colon Cancer bowling fundraiser

Come out and play a part in helping those in need receive critical screening for colon cancer. Northwest Community Healthcare will host the Strike Out Colon Cancer bowling fundraiser from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 3, at Brunswick Zone, 824 E. Rand Road, Mount Prospect.

According to the American Cancer Society, colorectal cancer - or colon and rectal cancer - is the third most common cancer diagnosed in both men and women in the United States. It's also the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths. Yet, it's estimated that 60 percent of colorectal cancer deaths could be prevented with regular screening for the disease.

• Sign up to bowl at www.nch.org/strikeoutcancer.

• Invite friends, family, co-workers and neighbors to sign up. Register up to six participants per lane/team. Cost is $40 per bowler. Cost of registration includes shoes and lunch (pizza, wings and drinks).

• Get creative by asking others for donations to sponsor your game, score, per pin or flat amount. Spread the word on social media and email. Northwest Community Healthcare will send you a fundraising kit after you register.

• After collecting donations, send them to nch.org/donate and be sure to choose "Strike Out Colon Cancer" in the designation field. Prizes will be awarded to top fundraisers.

All ages are welcome. No skills required. Participants are encouraged to create their own team shirts. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams with the highest scores. If you cannot attend, consider donating at nch.org/donate.

Registration will take place from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Bowling begins at 1 p.m., with an awards ceremony following at 3:30 p.m.

All profits from this event go toward the Northwest Community Healthcare Foundation's Colorectal Screening Fund, providing assistance to people in need to receive their first colonoscopy to screen for colorectal cancer.
