Elmwood teachers lend a helping hand on McTeacher's Night
Elmwood Elementary School students gave teachers an A-plus on their fundraising efforts to support local education and school activities.
Twenty teachers from Naperville Community Unit School District 203, volunteered behind the counter on Wednesday, Jan. 16, at the Naperville McDonald's located on 75th St., where they served students and their families in a fundraiser for Elmwood Elementary School in Naperville.
Elmwood Elementary School Principal Lisa Polomsky was at the event the entire night talking and taking pictures with the families. Teachers Molly Sass, Lynn Henz and one of the teacher's husband, Jim Hegranes, tended the apple pie box during the night. Teachers Park and Michael Positano sold the pies the entire night and did a fabulous job raising funds for Elmwood Home and School.
Ashley Cook, Elmwood Home and School President, did an outstanding working hard throughout the night. The proceeds from the sale of 204 pies went directly to benefit the students. Fifteen percent of the proceeds from the McTeacher's Night sales were donated directly to the Elmwood Home and School fund, which plans to use the money to help pay for assemblies, field trips, class parties, classroom materials, and the school garden.
The night was made extra special by an appearance from school mascot, Elmwood Eagle. The kids loved taking pictures with the Eagle. The families also enjoyed a special performance by Elmwood musical students during the night.
Ed Schmitt, owner and operator of the Naperville McDonald's, and the Schmitt family is delighted to participate in the worthy cause for education and the community.
"McTeacher's Night is part of McDonald's larger commitment to education and other important initiatives supporting families and the local community," Schmitt said.
"We are proud to serve the families of the Elmwood community and through the McTeacher's Night event. In addition to help provide financial support for our local schools, we help students feel connected to their school, their teachers and their sense of community."
Schmitt donated a case of apple pies to the school for sale at the event. Inspired by the success of McTeacher's Night, the Schmitt family has set their sights on partnering with other schools in the Naperville area.
"Cook and everyone who rolled up their sleeves in support of this event is the fabric that strengthens our community," Schmitt said.
