Carol Stream picking Citizens of Year

The Carol Stream Citizen of the Year Committee has announced its nominees for the 2018 Citizen of the Year Awards.

Nominees are village residents who have volunteered in one or more community groups during the past year. One female and one male will receive the award.

The nominees and the organization that nominated them are as follows:

• Citizen of the Year, female: Geraldine Laudick, Carol Stream Woman's Club; Patti Schwartz, St. Luke's Parish; Jan Smith, Windsor Park Living Community.

• Citizen of the Year, male: Bill Keen, Carol Stream Police Department.

Special Citizen of the Year nominees are residents who have volunteered for five straight years in the community. One female and one male will receive the award.

The nominees and the organization that nominated them are as follows:

• Special Citizen of the Year, female: Maria Gillette, Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago & Northwest Indiana; Karen Shreve, Carol Stream Historical Society; Jessica Welman, Relay For Life Carol Stream.

• Special Citizen of the Year, male: William Bonnema, Carol Stream Park District.

The Judges Recognition Award is presented to a person living outside Carol Stream who has provided exemplary volunteer service in the village.

The award will be presented to: Debra Cartwright, nominated by the Carol Stream Rotary Club.

The awards will be presented at a Feb. 2 banquet at the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites, 150 S. Gary Ave.
