Harper seeks volunteers for free ultrasounds

The Harper College Diagnostic Cardiac and Medical Sonography programs are seeking volunteers interested in receiving free ultrasounds. A limited number of appointments are available starting Jan. 30 through April 10.

Ultrasound exams include echocardiograms of the heart (participants must be at least 18 years old) and obstetric ultrasounds (participants must be at least 18 weeks pregnant).

The free tests, which last about an hour each, are non-diagnostic. Volunteers will not receive a medical report, but may be instructed to follow-up with a physician. Obstetric ultrasound volunteers may receive 2-D/3-D image copies.

All exams will be performed by students on state-of-the-art equipment, under the supervision of a registered diagnostic medical sonographer. Harper's program conforms to all patient safety regulations.

Appointments are required and fill up quickly. Contact Karen in the Harper College Diagnostics Imaging Lab at (847) 925-6104.
