Forest preserve planning 'Reclaimed Beauty' exhibit

Artist proposals are being sought by March 5 for "Reclaimed Beauty," an outdoor installation exhibit of recycled and repurposed materials at the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County's Mayslake Peabody Estate at 1717 W. 31st St. in Oak Brook.

The exhibit, which runs June 1 through Sept. 29, will explore how the human consumption of goods and the resulting waste affects the environment. Jurors will select 15 artists for the exhibit based on artistic merit, use of recycled materials, public safety, and durability and appropriateness in an outdoor setting. Selected artists will each receive a $300 stipend.

Submissions must follow all guidelines, and applicants are encouraged to visit Mayslake Forest Preserve in advance to view the site.

Artwork must be suitable for outdoor installation, and 70 percent of the materials used in a piece must be reclaimed or recycled materials. A map with specific installation locations is available upon request by emailing kstrubhart@dupageforest.org.

Mayslake Peabody Estate, which includes the Tudor Revival-style Mayslake Hall, serves as an education center dedicated to connecting people to nature through the arts and history. The surrounding 90-acre forest preserve is an oasis for those who love art, architecture, history and nature.
