MCC literary magazine receives honors from international competition

The McHenry County College literary arts magazine, "Voices 2018," has been awarded a Gold Medalist Critique rating with All-Columbian Honors in the Essentials and Visual categories by from Columbia Scholastic Press Association.

The award-winning magazine scored 948 out of a possible 1,000 points to receive this high honor. "Voices" features short fiction, poetry, visual art, video and music submitted by MCC students.

Next year's publication, "Voices 2019," is expected to be completed in spring.

"We are all very proud of the 2018 edition of Voices," said Matt Irie, MCC art instructor and Voices faculty adviser. "Our students create outstanding work and it's an honor to see them get the recognition they deserve."

The Voices faculty advisers include: Matt Irie, Amy Ortiz, Lisa Crizer, Paige Lush, and Justin Schmitz. Student editors are: Stephanie Wisniewski of Lake in the Hills, Morgaine Polit of Crystal Lake, Anthony Parlogean of Wonder Lake, Collin Nicholls of McHenry and Cassandra Peters of Lakemoor. Designer/adviser is Ryan Duggan of Chicago, formerly of Johnsburg.
