St. Bede School celebrates being named a National Blue Ribbon School

St. Bede School recently celebrated being named a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education.

The Ingleside school was formally recognized during an award ceremony in Washington, D.C., on Nov. 7 and 8. St. Bede was recognized under the category of "Exemplary School," meaning these schools are among the nation's highest academic performing schools as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests.

"We are very proud to accept the Blue Ribbon on behalf of our academic team, the children, their parents and the members of the community who support us in action and prayer," said Principal Patricia Strang. "St. Bede School is educating a new generation of leaders who understand their responsibility as global citizens to care for the earth and its inhabitants. Each day they grow in faith, wisdom and love."

The Blue Ribbon School Award celebration took place Nov. 12. The celebration began with a community Mass at 8:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lakes Parish, St. Bede Church site, followed by an awards assembly at St. Bede School, 36399 N. Wilson Road, Ingleside.

Speakers were St. Bede School Student Council President Siona Mishra, School Board President Melissa Greenenwald, Fox Lake Mayor Donny Schmit and Pastor of Our Lady of the Lakes Parish Father George Koeune. The eighth-grade class created and performed a "Blue Ribbon" themed cheer and then all students sang, "Go Make a Difference" as they left the assembly.
