WCI's Legacy Continues

Women's Club of Inverness (WCI) is in its 53rd year of supporting the community. Already for the 2018-19 membership year, WCI members donated board games for NWSRA (Northwest Suburban Special Recreation Association) in line with worldwide Make a Difference Day. Many also volunteered with Palatine Township for Appletree and as a Secret Santa to needy families. The first fundraiser on November 16, Memories of Christmas Past, was a membership effort of time, talent, and financial contributions.

Joining these efforts were several women who became new members at the May and September meetings, supporting the momentum of a 40% membership jump 2 years ago.

For close to 30 years, WCI membership has had no geographic boundaries, attracting women from the Northwest Suburban corridor and beyond. Recently, there has been a surge of the "next generation" of women, and many of them are the daughters of current or past members. Joining 3 years ago, Fran Guziel of Arlington Heights, and her daughter, Pam Panczyk of Palatine, have volunteered to chair fundraising efforts with resounding success. Pam commented, "Working to fulfill the WCI mission alongside my mother is an opportunity to contribute to our greater community together. I may still call her 'mom' but she is my colleague and peer in this environment, and we both embrace the common goal to make a difference to those less fortunate than the blessings our family experiences."

Marla Bradley and Liz Hunsaker, both of Palatine, are also a daughter-mother duo. Elizabeth Wakeman (Lake in the Hills) joined two years ago; her mother, Mary Jane Felt, was a long time Inverness resident and WCI member.

Serving in her first year as president, Schaumburg resident Karen Spering encouraged women to attend the December 13th General Meeting with reminders of all the meeting merriments. "In addition to celebrating WCI's community contributions and successful first fundraiser, talented Natalia Ptaszek will entertain to set the holiday mood. On top of it, there is always excitement when the spring event theme is revealed," commented Spering.
