Naperville Park District partners with Elgin Recycling to recycle holiday lights

The Naperville Park District announces its eighth annual holiday lights recycling program in partnership with Elgin Recycling, beginning Nov. 19, 2018 and ending Feb. 1, 2019.

Residents and businesses are invited to bring their old, nonworking lights to any of the following locations:

• Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center, located at 305 W. Jackson Ave. Hours of operation are: 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.

• Fort Hill Activity Center, located at 20 Fort Hill Drive. Hours of operation are: 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday to Friday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, and 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday.

• Knoch Knolls Nature Center, located at 320 Knoch Knolls Road. Hours of operation through November are: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. December, January and February hours are the same except the center will be closed on Sundays.

• Springbrook Golf Course Golf Shop, located at 2220 W. 83rd. St.

In 2017, Naperville Park District joined with 49 villages, four other park districts, seven businesses, five libraries, two churches and one high school in the region to help Elgin Recycling collect 98,056 pounds of holiday lights. This year's goal is to keep 100,000 pounds of lights out of the landfill.

The following types of lights will be accepted: Mini-lights, C-7 lights, C-9 lights, Rope lights, LED lights and extension cords. All colors and lengths will be accepted.
