Glenbard South students get grant for healthy eating app

Seven Glenbard South High School students attended AdVenture Capital's third annual "Fuel Up Innovation Challenge" at the Athletico Center in Northbrook with Christa Gifford, chair of the school district's wellness committee.

Students from schools around the area met with mentors from Dairy Management Inc. as they spent the day determining how they could address an issue that affects their community or school in the areas of food insecurity, food waste and/or food sustainability.

Glenbard South students Matt Lisitza and Jacob Oates came up with "Raider Roadmap," which would be an app to help Glenbard South students navigate healthy food choices, options for healthy eating on campus, and information about nutrition.

Matt and Jacob were awarded a $1,000 grant to bring "Raider Roadmap" to life. They plan to work on this project with help from teachers, food service personnel and classes during the rest of the school year.
