Elburn American Legion dedicates World War I and II Memorial

The Daniel Simpson Post 630 of the American Legion in Elburn invites the public to the dedication of the memorial for World War I and World II veterans from Elburn and the near vicinity.

The ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, at the tank memorial immediately east of the Elburn City Hall, 301 E. North St.

This ceremony has been a long time coming. A core of committed members of Post 630 have worked tirelessly to see this project through to completion. They have raised money and they have applied the highest standards as they have pursued the project.

Numerous local groups and individuals have donated materials, labor, and financial help to the project for several years. Although the monuments are there to be seen every day, we hope that those who have contributed to the cause will be able to come to the dedication and see the product to which they have contributed. This will be an opportunity for everyone to see that the wait has been well worth it. The monuments are very, very impressive, and they are a fitting honor for those veterans. The plaques have been refurbished and look great. Lighting has been updated, too. The community will be proud of the job that has been done for these heroes.

They hope to have three living members of Post 630 whose names are on the plaque honoring World War II veterans in attendance. If any members of the public have relatives whose names are on the plaque for World War II who are still living, please consider bring them to the ceremony. Also, if any members of the public have relatives on either the World War I plaque or World War II plaque, please come to see your loved one's name on the plaque. Feel free to take pictures to send to relatives and friends.

It is estimated that the ceremony may last 30 minutes. Everyone is welcome. Hope to see you there.
