HE Parks names October's Best of Hoffman

The park board of commissioners of the Hoffman Estates Park District is proud to announce the recipient of its Best of Hoffman award for October. At its Oct. 23 meeting, the board recognized Officer John Bending of the Hoffman Estates Police Department.

Officer Bending was nominated by the park district staff for the many hours he has volunteered as a presenter and educator for the children and staff in the park district's child care programs.

He often visits the preschoolers in the Early Learning and Care Program to read books. When he reads a book, he gets down on their level to make them feel comfortable. Sometimes he lets the children get a close look at his squad car.

Officer Bending has also visited the STAR Before and After School Care program to address topics such as bullying and personal safety. Over the summer he visited the park district's Teen Camps to address some tough topics in a fun way. He has also available to answer questions for the staff.

Each month, the park board honors outstanding volunteers as its Best of Hoffman. For more information, visit heparks.org.
