Free dental care for veterans offered Nov. 10
Dentists, hygienists and staff from 10 different Chicago area dentist offices are joining together to provide free oral health care to military veterans in honor of their service to the U.S.
Nearly 60 volunteers from DecisionOne Dental Group will join together at six dental offices to provide the complementary care on Saturday, Nov. 10, the day before the national observance of Veterans Day.
"Many veterans don't qualify for dental care through the VA, even if they can get other treatments," says Dr. Mike Acierno, co-founder and Chief Clinical Officer of DecisionOne Dental. "But good oral health has such an impact on overall health we think it's vital to provide this care. And veterans are a community that our patients, doctors and staff are a part of, so this is personal to us, too."
To qualify for dental care through the Department of Veterans Affairs, individuals must be 100-percent disabled, have been a prisoner of war or developed a dental condition during his or her service. However, lack of routine dental care and cleanings can lead to higher risks of stroke and heart disease. Many veterans struggling to find jobs after their service also cite issues with their smiles as obstacles to employment.

There are six host locations in the Chicago area:
• 25 East Dental in Chicago (The Loop);
• Acierno Family Dentistry in Chicago (Edison Park);
• Acierno Dental in Schaumburg;
• Orland Square Dental in Orland Park;
• Route 64 Dental in St. Charles;
• Second Street Dental in St. Charles.
Doctors, hygienists and staff from DecisionOne Dental offices in Wheaton, Homewood and Elk Grove Village are also volunteering at host locations. Services may include cleanings, deep cleanings, fillings, extractions and root canals by appointment from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 10.
