Explore the 'Life of the Metis' with MCCD
The McHenry County Conservation District invites all ages for an engaging exploration into a culture of our region's past at the "Life of the Metis" from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, at Prairieview Education Center, 2112 Behan Road in Crystal Lake.
Metis villages were places where the lives and the cultures of the French Canadian traders and the Native Americans who lived in this area became intertwined, especially during the 18th and early 19th century.
Celebrate their culture by joining us for this special event. Visit the inside of the wigwam where you will discover artifacts of the Metis lifestyle and learn about some of their customs.
Try your hand at weaving a cattail mat on a loom and make a clay pinch pot to take home. Sample snacks and listen to stories and the haunting sound of the Native American flute.
Stop by for a little while, or stay for the whole afternoon. No registration is required.
