Holidays and Caregiving are Stressful; BACOA Can Help

The Barrington Area Council on Aging is hosting a special workshop to arm caregivers with the help they need to better maneuver the holidays Thursday, Nov. 8, from 5-7:15 p.m. at the Garlands of Barrington's Performing Arts Center, 1000 Garlands Lane, Barrington. A light dinner will be served and there is no cost to attend. However, registration is required.

"Special occasions can be stressful when a loved one is dealing with an advanced illness or dementia," said BACOA's Social Services Coordinator Pam Pellizzari. "But this workshop will help caregivers see these events as joyous and how these moments will create memories that will last a lifetime."

Featured speakers are Amanda Savage Brown, PhD., LCSW of Samaritan Counseling Center and JourneyCare's Community Outreach Manager Mary Helen Ekstam, MT-BC, who will help caregivers learn how to approach the holiday season differently.

"It's about reframing expectations and embracing the season with your health-challenged loved one," said Pellizzari.

To register, contact BACOA at 847-381-5030.
