Student Excellence Foundation gathers to welcome new executive director

The Student Excellence Foundation recently gathered to officially welcome its new executive director, Vicki D. Sebela.

About 70 donors and supporters joined the board of directors to celebrate the foundation's past and look toward its exciting future with remarks from Wheaton Warrenville Unit District 200 Superintendent Dr. Jeff Schuler, Foundation President Andy Johnson, and the foundation's new executive director.

This milestone would not have been possible without community support of the foundation's vision and our commitment to "Engage, Enrich and Empower" the students of Wheaton-Warrenville Unit District 200.

In her position as executive director, Sebela will work closely with the foundation's board of directors in oversight of its fundraising and grant programs, which support its mission to "engage the community to enrich educational experiences that empower students to reach their greatest potential."

This new position is fully funded through the Student Excellence Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit that is the education foundation for District 200. Since 1992, the foundation has granted funds for new projects and teaching methods that enhance and enrich the educational experience of students.

Join them at the fourth annual STEM Expo from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at Hubble Middle School. General admission will be 6:30 to 9 p.m., with a special needs preview from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Exhibits will open early at 5:30 p.m. to families with special needs. The quieter exhibits will be in the commons area as well as the large gym. Robotics will be in the small gym. The STEM Expo opens to the general public at 6:30 p.m., and special needs families are welcome to stay for the remainder of the event. When you reserve a special needs preview ticket, you have access to the entire event; you do not need to reserve a general admission ticket as well. This event is very popular and has sold out in the past, so reserve your tickets in advance to ensure your admission to the expo. The suggested donation is $5 per participant.

This event is geared toward elementary and middle school students; all students should be accompanied by an adult.

More information is available at www.StudentExcellenceFoundation.org, including details on a preview time for students with special needs and their families.

Another way to support the foundation's mission right now is through Fund A Classroom, a crowdfunding option for District 200 educators to post their project campaigns online. You can search online by teacher, school, or subject area.

Donate a modest amount, fund the entire project, or anything in between. You can also support more than one project. You can access Fund A Classroom campaigns through the foundation's website, www.StudentExcellenceFoundation.org, under the "Get Involved" tab.

The Student Excellence Foundation was founded in 1992 as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization (EIN # 36-3786044), formerly NEW200. The foundation serves more than 1,000 educators and 13,000 students (early childhood through grade 12) and is dependent upon parent and community volunteers.
