Highland Middle School Eighth Grade Female Math Team Nabs Second Place

A Highland Middle School math team of three eighth grade girls placed second at a Mathalon recently held at Woodland Academy of the Sacred Heart, a private school in Lake Forest.

Students Aarya Bamrolia, Samantha Whisenand, and Sammie Scrogham were awarded second place out of 11 teams competing, said math teacher Holly Chapman of the Libertyville school. The competition, open only to girls in seventh and eighth grade, was held Oct. 13.

"The teams of three are given a series of situations that they need to work on together, using math and problem-solving skills, to solve," Chapman said. "They had a lot of fun, worked really well together, and brought home a 2nd place trophy. I'm really proud of them."
