Wauconda FBLA honors police, serves the community

Submitted by Wendy Mills

Wauconda High School Future Business Leaders of America students served dinner to 100 senior citizens and families Sept. 12 at the Wauconda American Legion Hall, as part of their "Meals for All" program, which has been ongoing for eight years.

The oldest diner was 103-year-old Fayne Nelson. The FBLA welcomed numerous new senior citizens that night, who soon found out that the food was good, but the company was even better.

A special invitation was given to all members of the Wauconda Police Department to join the night's diners. The Wauconda High School FBLA wanted to recognize the men and women that serve their community.

FBLA members also delivered 15 meals to families in need. The group thanked Laura Halverson, assistant principal at Wauconda High School, for her donation of food and clothing.

One of the recipients said, "I love Wauconda and the friendly helpful atmosphere that is shared."

The sponsor for September's meal was Middleton's and Bulldog Grill Restaurants, with Threads sponsoring the dessert. FBLA extended thanks to all who helped Wauconda help their own.
