Give Ice Skating A Try: Many Opportunities at Triphahn Ice Arena

The Hoffman Estates Park District (HE Parks) announces several new opportunities to try ice skating at its Triphahn Ice Arena at 1685 W. Higgins Road. Family Skate Sundays, Try Hockey for Free and Free Figure Skating Lesson are three events coming up at the Triphahn Ice Arena, which was named "Best Ice Arena" in 2018 by the readers of the Daily Herald.

Family Skate Sundays are a new weekly event for families to exercise together. The park district will lower its rates and offer $3 admission for kids and $5 for adults. Skate rental is $3 for everyone.

"We wanted to give parents a chance to skate with their kids," said HE Parks General Manager of Ice Operations Stan Dubicki. "Families can come out and skate and get some exercise, and have fun together."

In addition, those who want to try hockey for free or get a free beginner's ice skating lesson will have the chance in November.

Saturday, Nov. 10 from 4:40-5:40 p.m. Try Hockey For Free event will take place. The event is designed to give kids ages 4-9 a completely free experience to try youth hockey. Coaches will be on hand to assist children in learning the basics. The event is open to boys and girls and they do not need any previous skating or hockey experience. All equipment is provided, including skates. It is recommended that participants bring and wear bike helmets and hockey sticks if they have them. Participants should register at tryhockeyforfree.com/9039. Questions, contact Randy Jordan rjordan@heparks.org or call 847-285-5501. Participants should arrive by 4 p.m. to be fitted for skates.

Saturday, Nov. 17 from 2-3 p.m. Free Figure Skating Lesson for those who are new to figure skating. Instructors will be available to help beginners learn the basic skills of ice skating. The event is open to boys and girls and they should be beginners in skating. Figure skate rental is free as well, but participants should wear a bike helmet. Anyone interested should RSVP to Melissa Motyka-Ciavarella at MMotyka@heparks.org or call 847-781-3642.

HE Parks offers year-round group figure skating lessons starting at age three, for beginners through the Freeskate levels at the Triphahn Ice Arena. Private lessons are also available for all levels, including the highest level of competitive skaters. Each year, skaters have the opportunity to perform in an exciting exhibition with music, dramatic lighting and spotlights.

Hockey instructional lessons include starter learn to skate, hockey skills and the popular Jr. Wolf Pack in-house league two-day programs. The program offers more ice time for longer periods than other programs allows players to learn faster and have more fun playing the game. Payment plans are now available for multi-week programs.

Wolverines Girls Hockey, Coyotes 8U Mites Northwest Hockey League, and Wolf Pack offer great team play opportunities with as much or more ice time than other programs. Training for most programs includes time in the first-class off-ice training center, and for all goalies the latest in training excellence in the Goalie Academy.
