The Algonquin Area Public Library District welcomes all runners and walkers to participate in its second annual Library Loop 5K at 8 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 21.

The race starts directly in front of the Harnish Main Library at 2600 Harnish Drive. Registration closes at 7:45 a.m. and the race begins at 8 a.m.

The 5K USATF-certified course (IL-17003-JW) winds its way around the neighborhoods and park district walking paths surrounding the library.

Cost for the 5K is $40, $37.50 for seniors, $20 for teens and $15 for youth. Online registration ends at 5 p.m. Oct. 19.

Participants who register before race day receive $5 off their registration fee. Register at runsignup.com/Race/IL/Algonquin/LibraryLoop

From tiny tots to seniors, runners/walkers of all ages are welcome to participate.

The Algonquin Area Public Library District received more than 160 registrations in 2017 and the race committee hopes to surpass that number of registrations this year.

Proceeds from this year's 5K will help the library district continue to anticipate and respond to community requests for equipment and services in the library's newly constructed spaces.

Each participant will receive a T-shirt and electronic bib. Snacks and water will be provided.

With the addition of a new sponsor, Advanced Dental & Implant Care in Algonquin, one lucky race participant will receive a golden ticket in their race packet, good for $1,000 off a dental implant.

Every runner/walker will also be entered into a drawing to win one of four $50 gift cards, courtesy of The Running Depot in Crystal Lake.

All finishers will receive a medal. First-place male and female finishers in each age division receive a certificate.

Packet pickup will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Harnish Main Library, 2600 Harnish Drive, west of Randall Road.

Volunteers, age 13 or older, are needed to help out at packet pickup on Saturday, Oct. 20, or serve as turn marshalls or at the registration desk or water table on race day.
