Join Woodlands Academy for fall open houses

This year is the 200th anniversary of Sacred Heart education in North America. Prospective students and their parents can learn about the presence it has had in Lake Forest since 1904 during two fall open houses at Woodlands Academy of the Sacred Heart.

Beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, and noon Sunday, Nov. 11, participants will be able to see the school's 41-acre campus; meet with students, teachers and coaches; and engage in interactive sessions that highlight the breadth of a Woodlands Academy education.

Woodlands Academy has again been named Illinois' top all-girls high school in the latest report by Niche, an independent research company, which also ranks Woodlands the third Best Catholic High School in Illinois. The school promotes engaging academics, artistic and athletic excellence, strong faith, and social responsibility. 2018 also marks the 160th anniversary of its founding in Chicago.

Located at 760 E. Westleigh Road in Lake Forest, Woodlands Academy is an independent, Catholic day-and-boarding college-preparatory high school for young women of all faiths in ninth through 12th grade.

Studies cited by the National Coalition of Girls' Schools have shown that an all-girls educational environment empowers girls to participate more, excel in STEM, score higher on SAT tests, and become future scientists, doctors, engineers and inventors.

Woodlands Academy is part of a worldwide network of Sacred Heart Schools that spans the United States and 40 countries around the world. Its students have the opportunity to participate in an exchange program allowing them to spend some time abroad at one of the other Sacred Heart schools in addition to Global Odyssey and Global Scholar programs.

During Woodlands Academy's fall open houses, prospective students will have the opportunity to:

• Learn about the school's distinctive Center for Global Studies that offers opportunities to travel abroad in high school.

• Hear from a group of students who will share their experiences ranging from academic, social, leadership to service opportunities.

• Experience the dynamic nature of a Woodlands classroom with pop-up classes.

• Talk with parents about their first-hand impressions about how the school has impacted their daughters.

• Check out a variety of clubs, sports, and fine and performing arts.
