Celebrate fall with an OAKtober Planting Party Oct. 20

Bring back the Big Woods of McHenry County. Help plant more than 700 oak trees in the heart of Marengo Ridge.

Invite your family and friends to come out and join in on McHenry County Conservation District's "OAKtober Planting Party!" from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at Marengo Ridge Conservation Area, 2411 N. Route 23, Marengo.

At this free drop in event, you and your family and friends can be part of history, as the district works to restore the oak ecosystems that once covered over a third of the county's land mass. Travel along the half-mile trail to the restoration zone where you can help plant trees, learn about our keystone species, play an oak-themed game, listen to music and enjoy a snack. Stop in any time or come for the whole afternoon. Be a part of this historic savanna's fresh start.

Note, there will be a limited quantity of oak trees for sale by The Land Conservancy of McHenry County. These trees are suitable for planting in your yard or as gifts to family and friends; cash or check only.

All ages are welcome. Registration is not required.
