'Walk to Remember' steps off in Naperville

A support group will hold its 14th annual "A Walk to Remember" later this month in downtown Naperville.

SHARE, which is funded by the Edward Foundation, is for those who have experienced a miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, stillbirth or neonatal death.

Proceeds from the walk support SHARE's counseling services, bereavement training and education, and the Wings of Hope Angel Garden at Naperville's Edward Hospital, an outdoor space that was designed as a place where grieving parents can seek peace and comfort, as well as memorialize their child.

The 1½-mile walk will step off at 10:15 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, from the Riverwalk Grand Pavilion at 500 W. Jefferson Ave., just west of Centennial Beach in downtown.

Check-in and registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. A memorial service featuring music, poetry and a reading of baby names will be at 9:30 a.m.

Beyond walking, there are many ways to support the event, including sponsorship, providing in-kind donations and serving as a volunteer.

SHARE support groups are available at Edward Hospital, 801 S. Washington St. in Naperville, and Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road.

At Elmhurst Hospital, SHARE meets from 7 to 9 p.m. the first Tuesday of each month in the Arboretum Conference Center's Birch Room. At Edward, SHARE meets from 7:15 to 9:15 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month in the hospital's Education Center, Room E305.
