Navy recruiter to speak on shortage of military-eligible youth Oct. 16

How less than a third of America's youth qualify for military service impacts national security will be detailed at the Aurora Navy League Council 247 monthly dinner meeting Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Grandma's Table Restaurant, 1700 Douglas Road in Montgomery.

The after-dinner speaker will be Lt. Kortney D. Fink, USN, enlisted production officer, Navy Recruiting District, Chicago.

Lt. Fink will speak after a 5:15 p.m. reception and 6 p.m. dinner.

Dinner entrees are fish, chicken, or beef, with soup or salad, dinner rolls, vegetables, dessert and beverage. The cost is $20 per person; a dinner salad entree is $12.

Lt. Fink, a 2010 graduate of The Citadel with a degree in English, was commissioned through the school's NROTC program.

Upon commissioning, she served on the destroyer USS James E. Williams as Administrative Officer and then making one deployments, to the Persian Gulf. During this tour she was designated into the Human Resources Community. In 2013, she reported to the U.S. Naval Academy as the Enlisted Personnel Officer.

She was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal and various service, unit and campaign awards.
