Clark family estate sale to benefit Batavia museum expansion project

On Saturday, Oct. 13, the Batavia Historical Society is teaming up with the Clark Family Estate for a benefit for the Batavia Depot Museum Expansion Project. The Clark family owned Avenue Motors for three generations in Batavia.

The Clark family has a long history in the area. John's grandfather, William H. Clark, known as "Scoop," opened the Main Garage on Main Street on Jan. 1, 1930. In 1932, he became a Chevrolet dealer, and the dealership continued to sell Chevys until 2009.

John's father, Donald W. Clark, took over the business in 1975 when Scoop died from a heart attack while making funeral arrangements for his wife, Stella, who had died earlier that day.

Avenue Motor Sales had supported many organizations in the community, such as boy's baseball, soccer and being a charter member of the Batavia Chamber of Commerce.

The Clark Family is planning to donate memorabilia from the dealership to the Depot Museum which the family has supported over the years. When looking at some of the items, the family has stored a number of pieces in the former showroom and it was decided to have an estate sale to benefit the museum.

There are many unique items from the Clark Estate that will be sold. Antique & vintage furniture, glassware, china, linens, toys and games, handcrafted items and craft supplies, frames and framed prints, light fixtures, bathroom accessories, kitchen objects and much, much more. There will also be for sale several pieces from the dealership.

The sale will be held Saturday, Oct. 13, at the former Avenue Motors on Randall and McKee Street.

From 9 to 10 a.m., there will be early shopping for members of the Batavia Historical Society.

The sale will then be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The auction of Batavia memorabilia will begin at 4 p.m.

At 5 p.m., there will be a farewell salute to Avenue Chevrolet.
