Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra to explore 'French Connections' at Nov. 11 concert

The second concert of the Elmhurst Symphony's 58th season, on Sunday, Nov. 11, welcomes you to an afternoon of music of beloved composers with French connections: Chopin, Saint-Saëns, and Bizet.

Chopin's beautiful Piano Concerto No. 2 in F minor features the spectacular talents of Adam Neiman, an Elmhurst Symphony audience favorite.

Acclaimed organist Michael Surratt shines in Saint-Saëns' Symphony No. 3 (Organ Symphony), and the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra rounds out the program with the well-loved Carmen Suite No. 1 by Bizet.

The Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of music director and conductor Stephen Alltop, performs "French Connections" at 3 p.m. in the contemporary venue of Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church, 149 W. Brush Hill Road in Elmhurst. The church has accessible parking and facilities; parking is free.

The concert experience is enhanced by the informative and lively discussion, "Behind the Music Stand," led by audience favorite Dr. Ted Hatmaker, which takes place at 1:45 p.m. prior to the concert.

In honor of Veterans' Day, the orchestra will perform "Armed Forces Salute."

Veterans and active duty members of the military are invited to come in uniform.

Tickets for all current, retired and former military personnel will be offered at half-price.

You are invited to continue the French theme by joining the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra for dinner at Mon Ami Gabi in Oak Brook following the concert.

The menu includes a choice of three entrees, soup du jour or salad, and a dessert trio.

Tickets are $60 per person and can be purchased at www.elmhurstsymphony.org.

This concert is underwritten in part by generous gifts from Jane and the late Richard Kiep (Saint-Saëns), Raita Vilnins (Adam Neiman), and Hadley Pihi (in honor of Michael Surratt.) It is dedicated to the memory of long-time Elmhurst Symphony volunteer and friend, Richard Kiep.
