ECC to host workshop for choosing a college major this fall

Elgin Community College will host "Choosing a College Major," a workshop to help individuals create their own career vision and discover college majors and occupations.

The workshops are free and open to anyone who is or will be attending college.

It will be held at ECC's Spartan Drive Campus at 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin, IL on the following dates: Monday, Oct. 22 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.; Thursday, Nov. 1 from 1 to 2:30 p.m.; and Thursday, Nov. 15 from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

"Choosing a college major can be daunting," said Lynn Fagerlie, career development specialist. "But at ECC, students are not alone.

"In this workshop, students will be guided through a step-by-step process to move from confusion to confidence," Fagerlie said. "They will begin to assess their interests, values, strengths and personality to see how they can use who they naturally are to discover their future. Attendees will walk out of the workshop with their own personal career vision statement and ideas for exploring specific majors and careers that fit that vision."

The workshop is sponsored by ECC's Career Development Services office.
