ECC to host info session for parents of high school students Oct. 18

Elgin Community College will host "College and Career 101 for Parents of High School Students," from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, in the Building E Dining Room, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

Parents of area high school students are invited to attend the free event to learn how they can help their child become college and career ready.

"High school students are at the stage in their lives when they begin to think about which college to attend or a potential career to pursue - a decision that impacts their future and the rest of their lives," said Mia Hardy, Ph.D., interim associate dean of communications and behavioral sciences. "By understanding their child's potential pathways after graduation, as well as the tools available to assist their students with preparation while in high school, parents can be well-informed to support them throughout the decision making process."

During this informative event, attendees will learn about the different types of higher education institutions; the college application process; degree and certificate options offered through ECC; opportunities for high school students in participating school districts to earn college credit through dual enrollment programs; how to apply for financial aid; and more.

Registration for the event is not required.
