Colony Park improvement to begin this month

Colony Park in Elk Grove Village will undergo a long-term project to remove invasive species and establish new native plants. This park at 1920 Baltimore Drive, is an open land site covering nine acres with a walking and biking path.

The Elk Grove Park District has hired Integrated Lakes Management to remove buckthorn, spray for weeds, and conduct a controlled burn. Colony Park will be replanted with native grasses allowing native plant dominance which is environmentally responsible and restores a natural habitat. The project is expected to take up to five years.

Improvements will be made to the boardwalk between Delmar Court and Mead Junior High School. The sidewalk at that location will be closed for several weeks due to the improvements. The new elevated boardwalk will improve drainage and provide better access.

The plans for Colony Park and the boardwalk improvements are on display at the Elk Grove Park District Administration Office, 499 Biesterfield Road. Hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Call (847) 228-3513 for information. Work for both projects are expected to begin in October.
