Support Group for Parents of Transgender Children

This fall, Guided Path Psychological Services in Palatine is beginning a group addressing the specific needs and concerns of parents who have a transgender child (or children) of any age and maybe struggling.

Regardless if the child may be questioning or in the process of transitioning, the purpose of the group is to provide education, support and an opportunity to explore the feelings associated with your child's process. With emotions possibly ranging from shock to fear, doubt to acceptance, anger to guilt, it is important to know that this is a safe space in which it is OK to not be OK.

The group will meet at our offices at 201 E Dundee Rd, Palatine, Illinois 60074. The group is planned to meet for an initial eight sessions and after the first meeting participants will be asked to commit to attend the remaining sessions. The group will be initially facilitated by Dr Bonnie Estensen, Psy D, LCPC and Dan Frett, MS, LCPC joined by Jackie Frett , a paraprofessional with extensive work with LGBT parents.

Fees per session will be $30 per individual parent with a combined charge of $40 with both parents in attendance. Insurance coverage when applicable will be accepted for payment. Interested parties are asked to contact Dan Frett at (630) 915-6472 or danfgpps@gmail.com to arrange a phone screening prior to joining the group and/or ask any questions that may assist you regarding the group.
