Lisle group launching food drive

The Lisle Convention & Visitors Bureau is hoping to make a difference for people in need this holiday season by sponsoring a Share What You Can food drive for the Reach Food Pantry, a Lisle-based charity that provides food to those in need in DuPage and surrounding counties.

"This time of year is one of hope and joy for so many people, but it can also be a tremendous strain for those who don't have enough to eat," Executive Director Diane Homolka said. "The donations we receive through the food drive will help residents in Lisle and the surrounding area."

The drive begins Oct. 1 and runs through Dec. 7.

Residents can participate by dropping off nonperishable food donations from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at the Lisle village hall lobby, 925 Burlington Ave. All nonperishable food collected will be delivered to the Reach Food Pantry the second Friday in November and December for distribution.

Among the items in demand are canned meats, vegetables and fruit, canned fish, peanut butter, jelly or jam, soups, pasta, rice and cereal.

Reach Food Pantry is a nonprofit organization serving 200 families each month. It delivers food to those sick and shut in, and serves as one of several emergency pantries in DuPage County at 4324 Yackley Ave.
