Arlington Heights District 25 school to celebrate International Walk to School Day on October 10, 2018

WHAT: Westgate Elementary in Arlington Heights will be joining schools from around the world to celebrate International Walk to School Day on October 10, 2018.

WHO: Westgate Elementary and School District 25 teachers, staff, parents and students.

WHERE: Westgate Elementary School, 500 S. Dwyer Avenue, Arlington Heights, IL 60005.

WHEN: Wednesday, October 10th 2018, 8:45am

SIGNIFICANCE: Approximately 600 students from Westgate Elementary School are invited to walk to school Wednesday, October 10th along with parents, teachers and community leaders. Four "Walking School Bus" routes have been created to allow participants to meet and walk to school together.

In the United States, International Walk to School Day is expected to include more than 5,000 events across all 50 states. Walkers from the U.S. will join children and adults in 40 countries around the world.

Walk to School Day events work to create safer routes for walking and bicycling and emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion, concern for the environment and building connections between families, schools and the broader community.

The event is being organized by the Westgate PTA.
