Hanover Township Mental Health Board awards funding

The Hanover Township Mental Health Board approved $49,698 in funding at its August 28 meeting.

Gigi's Play House in Hoffman Estates received $11,000 in capital funding for their expansion of professional and fitness programs. The agency offers free therapeutic and educational programming to individuals with Down syndrome and their families.

Clearbrook received $5,000 in capital funding to update their community home in Hoffman Estates that serves people over a range of ages and disabilities.

The board also awarded $5,000 in capital funding to Renz Addiction Counseling Center in Elgin to update building infrastructure.

Shelter, Inc., received $5,000 in capital funding for a vehicle purchase to transport children and adults to medical appointments, therapy and specialized care.

The board approved $7,000 in emergency funding to Administer Justice, a nonprofit based in Elgin that provides a variety of services to low-income individuals facing civil legal matters. The agency served 137 township residents last year.

Funding is available to any 501c3 agency serving township residents in the areas of mental health, developmental disabilities or substance abuse.

The volunteer board advocates for increasing the availability and quality of mental health, developmental disabilities and substance abuse services by allocating funds to nonprofit agencies that provides services to Township residents. Last year, the board approved More than $1 million in funds to local agencies.

The board meets at 6:30 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of the month at the Township Hall, 250 S. Route 59 in Bartlett.

Hanover Township serves more than 101,000 residents in portions of the Cook County communities of Streamwood, Elgin, Bartlett, Hanover Park, Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg.
