Elk Grove Leos collecting food, toys for animal rescues

The Elk Grove Village Leo Club has begun its annual cornerstone community service project, which is to conduct a pet food, pet toy and pet supply drive that benefits the Almost Home Foundation, a pet rescue, fostering and adoption service geared toward both cats and dogs.

Last year, the Elk Grove Leo Club collected and presented more than 1,000 items comprised of cat and dog food, toys and treats, and new, unused cat and dog supplies.

This year's collection drive will run through Oct. 28, with drop off boxes located at Elk Grove Pavilion, Elk Grove Hattendorf Center, Elk Grove Public Library, Elk Grove High School, Grove Junior High School, Salt Creek School, and every Saturday at the Elk Grove Farmers Market.

In addition to this annual project benefiting the Almost Home Foundation, on Saturday, Sept. 29, in conjunction with the Elk Grove Village Lions Club and Lions Illinois Foundation's hearing screening bus event at the Elk Grove Farmers Market, the Leo Club is partnering with Second City Canine Rescue for a one-day only dog food, treats and supply collection event.

Second City Canine Rescue's mission as a nonprofit organization is to rescue homeless dogs and responsibly place them into permanent, loving homes.

Second City Canine Rescue appreciates the opportunity to partner with the Elk Grove Leo Club at this one-day only event and welcomes every donation that will come in that day. They will also have dogs available for adoption.

The Elk Grove Leo Club is recognized by Lions Clubs International, the oldest and largest service organization in the world, and is under the direct umbrella of the Elk Grove Village Lions Club.

The club meets one Sunday a month at 10 a.m. at the Panera on Biesterfield Road in Elk Grove Village.
