Car Show to Raise Funds for The Alzheimer's Association

"It's really important to all of us. Professionally, it has an enormous impact on the population we serve daily, and on a personal level, we've all known someone who has been affected by dementia. Alzheimer's is a horrible disease, and we are committed to doing what we can to fight it," said Keegan Sawyer, administrator of Radford Green Health Care and Rehabilitation at Sedgebrook senior living in Lincolnshire. Staff at the community has been gearing up since late spring, raising funds for their team that will participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer's. "Each year we're able to raise more money than the previous year," said Sawyer. He's hoping that proceeds from the community's 1st Annual Charity Car Show on September 29th, will take them past their previous record of $12,000.

Alzheimer's affects an estimated 5.7 million Americans and is expected to grow exponentially as the senior population continues to increase. Sedgebrook is a life plan retirement community in Lincolnshire. Located on the campus of Sedgebrook, five-star rated Radford Green provides memory care, assisted living, rehabilitation, and skilled nursing. Radford Green earned its certification as a Dementia Unit Residence from the Illinois Department of Public Health in 2013.

Members of the Sedgebrook community will participate in the annual Walk to End Alzheimer's held in Lake County on October 6th. Organized by the Alzheimer's Association, this is one of more than 600 walks held across the United States raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer's care and research. For those who cannot participate with Sedgebrook 's team on October 6th, the staff has organized a mini-walk on the Sedgebrook campus on October 16th. Like the larger Lake County event, this one is also a fundraiser.

Leading up to the walks, the community has had multiple fundraising initiatives including a pancake breakfast, spaghetti dinner, wine and cheese party, raffles, and more. The staff has been invited to participate in casual-for-a-cause Fridays whereby they make a financial donation to wear jeans to work on Fridays.

On September 29th, Sedgebrook will hold its 1st Annual Charity Car Show and Awards from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Presented by BGV Motorsports, the event will feature the display of muscle cars, along with face painting, balloon artists, family activities, and food vendors. Thirty-two awards will be presented to categories including top vehicle, Sedgebrook's choice award, trucks, imports, vintage domestic stock, modern domestic stock, and more. Attendance is free and open to the public; a $15 entrance fee will be charged for car show participants. One-hundred percent of the entrance fee proceeds, as well as a portion of vendor sales proceeds, will be donated to the Alzheimer's Association. Sedgebrook is located at 800 Audubon Way in Lincolnshire, across from the Lincolnshire Commons.
