Dr. David Watt receives award from Wheaton College

David H. Watt, MD, an orthopaedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist at Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, received the Athletic Service Award from the Wheaton College Athletics Department for his distinguished service as a team physician since 2001.

The award was presented Sept. 1 during halftime of the football team's season-opening game.

"I am deeply rooted in this community, and I want to provide care and support to the athletes when they need it most," says Dr. Watt. "The best memory for me is building lasting relationships with the athletes, parents and coaches, beyond just the medical care."

Dr. Watt, provides on-the-field emergency medical coverage, and he sees the athletes in his Warrenville office or performs surgery if needed. He is also involved in the school's return-to-play recovery plan.

Dr. Watt, who graduated from Wheaton College in 1976, was inducted into the Wheaton College Athletics Hall of Honor in 2004 for his efforts as a student-athlete. As a member of the Wheaton men's gymnastics team, he finished seventh in the all-around competition at the 1976 NCAA Division II Men's Gymnastics Championships.

He was also a recipient of a Northwestern Medicine Humanitarian Award in 2017 for volunteering his services around the world.
