Area districts partner for college, career fair

Township High School District 211 will again partner with Barrington Community Unit School District 220, High School District 214, St. Viator High School and Harper College for the 10th annual Directions College and Career Fair, which will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, at the Forest View Educational Center, 2121 S. Goebbert Road, Arlington Heights.

District 211 Transition Services Coordinator Patrick Abraham said the fair discusses post-high school options to parents of students with special needs.

"The fair is a great opportunity for students with special education needs and their families to explore postsecondary education and training opportunities as they plan for the future," Abraham said.

He added that this year's event will include a panel discussion with representatives from four-year college and universities, community colleges career training programs, and Life Skills training programs.

It will also host more than 50 representatives from various colleges and careers available to answer student and family questions, and explain the variety of options available.

"After attending the fair, students and families are surprised by the number of options available after high school, as well as the programs and accommodations available to individuals with special needs pursuing postsecondary education and training," Abraham said.
