Jaycees hosting fourth annual Fit Family Field Day

In the fourth year of its Healthy Family Initiative, the Palatine Jaycees is hosting Fit Family Field Day, rain or shine, from noon until 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at Falcon Park Recreation Center, 2195 N. Hicks Road, Palatine.

Fit Family Field Day will teach families fun and economical ways to keep their families fit and active. Clinics will be set up with multiple stations demonstrating different physical activities, such as soccer, hockey, a bike rodeo, yoga and baseball.

There will be giveaways, and prizes will be available for children to win when they visit the different activity stations.

"Fit Family Field Day is a fun way for the entire family to learn new ways to work together to stay healthy," said Donnie Nesci, project chairman. "Come out to enjoy a day of family fitness and nutrition education."

To put on this event, the Jaycees have teamed up with area businesses, sport clubs and nonprofits. The goal of this event is to educate Palatine families on local resources focused on nutrition and physical activity.

The project, developed by the chapter's Active Citizen Framework committee, researched issues currently facing Palatine residents. The committee learned that obesity, particularly among children and teens, is not only a national "hot topic," but also affects families in Palatine.

"Good health is the foundation of a successful community," said Cima.

Family Field Day is free for families and the activities are targeted to children 6 to 12 years of age. Activity stations will be set up both indoors and outdoors at the Palatine Park District's Falcon Park Recreation Center in north Palatine.

The Palatine Chapter of the Jaycees, one of 50 local chapters throughout Illinois, has more than 130 members and is one of the largest chapters in Illinois. The Jaycees provide individuals between the ages of 21 and 40 the opportunity to develop personal and leadership skills while serving their community and have been recognized statewide, nationally and internationally for their efforts.

The Palatine Chapter holds its monthly general meeting at 7:30 p.m. the third Thursday of the month at Durty Nellie's in Palatine.
